Available-to-Promise (ATP) – Vision or ultimate in supply chain performance?

Supplier’s reliability is not a great challenge for goods on stock. But if the material is not yet produced, raw materials are not at hand, capacity is limited and competing orders are coming in – it’s hard to know what to do.

An integrated planning environment generates a lot of benefits for supply chain processes. Moreover, it is the basis to guarantee defined delivery dates to customers with high reliability and to meet customer’s requested date – even for materials which are not on-stock and not yet scheduled.

Indeed, it is a great issue to integrate all constraints mapped in different IT-applications into a global overall view and to define planning parameters for different company units with to some extent diverse selling models. Also allocation for customers in case of supply constraints, regional quotas or availability at different production plants and sites or warehouses are manageable with ATP as multi-level process tool for material availability and product allocation.

No doubt, to manage this ultimate showcase in integrated planning high level and well trained staff is required. They have to understand the complexity of regional and global interactions of markets, sites, customers and selling strategies.

As a consulting and implementation partner, Buchbach Consulting strongly supported a Business Unit of global acting chemical company on the way to make the vision of ATP reality!
